JDV-PRE 500 Instrument Preamp and DI
RAD-R700 0120 00
* 100% discrete class-A instrument and mic preamp
* Feed forward front-end, void of negative feedback
* AccuState™ gain control for low noise at all levels
* Variable low frequency cut for acoustic instruments

The Radial JDV-Pre is a unique preamplifier designed specifically to capture the natural tone and distinct character of the instrument. This may sound like another 'marketing line', but unlike mic preamplifiers that are centered on 'the microphone', the JDV-Pre is completely focussed on the various types of pickups used while transferring the signal without introducing distortion or artefact of any type.
The design begins with a 100% discreet class-A amplifier for optimal signal transfer. But unlike all other amplifier designs, the JDV-Pre's front end is completely void of the negative feedback loops normally used to stabilize the circuit. This revolutionary design eliminates the use of phase-cancellation which inevitably degrades the signal. This is augmented with Drag Control™ load correction that allows the engineer to optimize the load on the instrument pickup for the most natural rendering.
The quest for perfection does not stop there. When the impedance is set for piezo pickups, the JDV-Pre remains unbelievably quiet. Accustate gain control not only allows complete freedom over the signal path, but retains the signal-to-noise ratio at all levels. Acoustic instruments are further advantaged with a fully variable high-pass filter that gently rolls of the low end to eliminate troublesome body resonance while allowing each instrument to sit more comfortably in the mix. To address instrument microphones, the JDV-Pre features a transformer coupled balanced mic input with available 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. PREMAX500 Channel Strip
RAD-R700 0112 00
* Combination preamp and 3 band equalizer
* Accustate gain control for low noise
* High-pass filter eliminates excessive resonance
* Dedicated instrument input for direct recording

The PreMax is an all-in-one channel strip that combines a low noise mic preamplifier with a state-of-the-art 3 band equalizer to deliver exceptionally clean results each and every time it is used.
The design begins with a high performance Op-Amp coupled with Radial's unique Accustate gain control that simultaneously sets the input sensitivity and signal gain to deliver outstanding signal-to-noise at all levels. Visual monitoring is provided with LEDs for signal and overload. The preamp then feeds a traditional 3 band EQ for tone shaping. This musical sounding EQ lets you gently boost the top end for more clarity, add warmth to the bottom end, or cut back the mids on an overly aggressive instrument. A front panel switch lets you bypass the EQ and compare the pre-post effect. This is augmented with a high-pass filter to eliminate low-end resonance that can cause a track to sound muddy or lack detail. A 180° polarity reverse works double duty to either help align a stereo mic setup or enable the PreMax to be interfaced with older vintage gear that may not follow the AES Pin-2 hot convention. For safety, the 48V phantom power switch is recessed to prevent accidental turn-on which could damage tweeters or vintage ribbon microphones. When used with a Radial Workhorse power rack, the Omniport jack is configured as an instrument input and activated using a convenient front panel switch. When the Omniport is not connected, the switch acts like a microphone mute.
Designed to deliver quick, dependable results, the PreMax's integrated design eliminates the concern of matching levels between modules. You simply plug in, set the gain, tone shape and start recording. This makes the PreMax the perfect channel strip module for project studios, post production, broadcast and live recording.

Q3 EQ 500 Induction Coil EQ
RAD-R700 0160 00
* Coil EQ based on vintage EQs from the golden age
* A stunning combination of over 10,000 tonal variations
* Lets you color your sound with warmth and detail
* Works with Workhorse and all 500 series power racks

The Radial Q3 is a spectacular sounding induction coil EQ that has been formatted to fit the popular 500 series format and the Radial Workhorse. It is designed to accentuate the character of a voice or instrument without introducing the artifacts and phase anomalies commonly associated with typical gyrator (resistor-capacitor) equalizer circuits.
The Q3 features four easy to use controls: top-end boost, mid-range cut, low frequency bass boost and gain make-up to offset the signal loss that occurs when using passive equalization. Each of the three EQ bands employs a 12 position Grayhill switch with a different preset curve at each position. These are carefully crafted to introduce subtle accents, huge hype and warm sounding cuts that will flatter and enthral. Each EQ setting is augmented with a miniature toggle switch that enables you to attenuate the curve for more subtle effects to deliver over 10,000 combinations of tonal bliss. And because presets are employed, it's easy to recreate favourite patches by setting the dials with 'easy to remember' 3-number combinations.
Adapted for use with the Radial Workhorse and older API Lunchbox racks, the Radial Q3 is plug-and-play easy to use. Simply feed it with a balanced line level signal and you are set to go. When connected to a Workhorse, the Omniport is assigned as an effects loop to allow various processing devices to be inserted into the EQ signal chain.
The Q3 induction coil EQ... probably the most exciting equalizer ever made.

PRECOMP500
RAD-R700 0114 00
* Combination preamp and compressor
* Accustate gain control for low noise
* Full function compressor for dynamic control
* Each processor may be accessed separately

The PreComp channel strip is a combination mic preamplifier and compressor made for the popular 500 series rack format and designed to bring greater efficiency to the recording process by simplifying the signal path and gain stage management.
The single wide module begins with a high performance preamp that can deliver in excess of 60dB to handle all types of microphones. Equipped with Radial's unique Accustate gain control, the PreComp simultaneously sets the output and sensitivity to maximize signal-to-noise at all levels. This is particularly important when recording in the digital domain where background noise can often be audible during quiet passages. A full-feature VCA compressor follows with adjustable threshold, compression ratio and gain make-up controls. The advanced compression algorithm reads the program material and automatically transitions from soft-knee to hard knee as the signal rises above the threshold. A simple slow-fast switch makes it easy to set the PreComp for either vocals or percussion.
Once connected to a 500 series power rack, connections to and from the PreComp are automatically routed to the XLRs for balanced operation. When used with a Workhorse, connectivity increases with ¼" TRS connectors and D-Subs while the Omniport provides direct patching to the preamp or the compressor, enabling the engineer to use each processor separately. Other features include 180° polarity reverse for phase matching two microphones, a high pass filter to eliminate unwanted resonance, 48V phantom power for condenser mics and an IN/OUT switch that lets you quickly compare the original uncompressed signal with the processed result.
This makes the PreComp an excellent choice for recording, broadcast and post production suites where instant control over voice and instrument is desired. The PreComp will also be a favorite for multi-channel live recording engineers where the small footprint can accommodate many input channels in a higher density rack.

SHUTTLE Insert Loop
RAD-R700 0134 00
* Lets you connect any module to the Workhorse mix buss
* Two front panel effects loops for handy patchbay convenience
* Individual insert switches for comparing wet – dry signals
* Third loop via Omniport for remote studio patchbay interface

The Radial Shuttle is a combination effects insert and routing module that enables you to bring playback tracks, effects and other non-Radial modules into the Workhorse. This opens the doors to tremendous patching options that would otherwise require complex wiring.
The design begins with an input feed via the Workhorse or other 500 series rack. This feeds two front panel insert loops. The first is fully balanced to make interfacing with +4dB studio gear quick and efficient while taking full advantage of the lower noise affo0rded by a true balanced insert. The second loop is unbalanced for -10dB operation. This is the most common form of insert found in studio workstation environments. A third loop can be accessed via the Omniport for those that are equipped with a Workhorse. Each is equipped with an individual insert on-off selector that allows the effects to be compared.
Where the Shuttle really begins to get interesting is when using the Workhorse for real-time playback. A feed from the recorder is sent to the Shuttle where the program track can be auditioned at the same time as a new recording track without latency of any kind. One simply routes the mic preamp and shuttle to one of the 8 channels while auditioning via the main, monitor or headphone outputs.
The Shuttle makes connecting effects to your 500 series rack quick, easy and super effective..

KOMIT 500 Compressor Limiter
RAD-R700 0150 00
* Single dial auto-tracking compressor-limiter
* Old school diode bridge clipping limiter
* Brick wall setting for set & forget recording
* 100% discrete with Hammond broadcast transformers

The Radial Komit™ is a feature-rich compressor-limiter that simplifies the process of dynamic manipulation while expanding upon creative tone shaping. At one end is a super-clean compressor that delivers amazing results with single knob control. At the other, an old-school diode bridge clipping limiter goes from 'vintage to nasty'. But don't let the minimalist approach deter; the Komit provides exceptional flexibility by integrating a series of automatic functions that are both musical and intuitive. Close your eyes and listen… the Komit does the hard work for you.
The design begins with an auto-detecting feed-forward VCA that reads the incoming program material and reacts 'real-time' to the time constant. Set the 3 position attack-decay switch to slow for vocals, medium for instruments and fast for percussion. As you increase the ratio, the Komit FlexKnee™ compression dynamically adjusts the pivot point, seamlessly transitioning from soft to hard knee for more natural results. Yet unlike most limiters that are designed to be transparent, the Komit Clipper™ is designed to introduce personality to your recordings. The Clipper simulates the sound created by old-school diode bridge circuits from the early days of radio. These clip the input signal when they exceed the headroom. Same deal… only here, you are in complete control. Ten settings are graduated from mild harmonic overload to extreme nasty. Think of Nine Inch Nails.
To ensure absolute signal integrity, full size discrete electronics are employed throughout while the vintage style Hammond broadcast transformers add extra warmth to the signal path. A variable level control provides gain make-up or can be used to drive the Clipper for added distortion. Dual ballistic VU metering makes it easy to simultaneously view compression and output when making adjustments. Designed for use with all 500 series racks, the Komit can be linked for full stereo operation. When used with the Radial Workhorse, the Omniport is assigned as a key input for frequency dependent compression, de-essing, ducking or any number of dynamic manipulation effects.
The Komit transcends the complex world of dynamic manipulation with the simplicity of single dial control. Stand by for take off...

Designated as an unbalanced input, the ChainDrive's Omniport input automatically converts the unbalanced signal to a balanced line so that it can then feed other 500 series modules.
Applications include sending a pre-recorded track to multiple dynamic processors to create multi-band compression, feeding a variety of effects processors simultaneously and splitting the signal to feed various guitar amps and pedals. Each TRS signal path may also be used to distribute a stereo signal such as a CD or iPod and feed it to four stereo destinations.
The ChainDrive is a unique tool designed for creative engineers who are looking to expand the sonic landscape by adding more routing flexibility than ever before!

JDX 500 Reactor - Guitar Amp & Speaker Simulator
RAD-R700 0122 00
* Guitar amp interface and cabinet simulator
* Reactive load captures sound from head and cabinet
* Direct record option for quick tracking
* Delivers consistent great tone each time

The Radial JDX™ Reactor™ is a unique guitar amplifier interface designed to capture the tone of a 4x12 cabinet by either recording 'direct' or by interfacing the Reactor via an amplifier head and cabinet. This makes the JDX ideal for fast-paced recording environments such as film and gaming where take after take consistency is required. But don't let the high-speed production capability lead you to think compromise… the JDX is used by many of the world's leading artists including heavy metal master Kerry King of Slayer, Rascal Flatts, Radiohead and Dimmu Borgir just to name a few.
The most astonishing results are obtained when patching the JDX in between a head and cabinet. The JDX captures the sound from the head while the reactive load captures the back electro-magnetic impulse from the loudspeaker. Advanced multistage filters shape the tone to emulate the sound of a 4x12 half stack. For quick tracks and overdubs, you can plug your guitar into a distortion and then into the JDX and get a great consistent sound without having to move mics around or trying to manage variables such as room acoustics and amp levels. And with this new 500 series module, bass amps can join into the fun! Use the standard 4x12 emulation to capture the robust mid-range tone of an SVT or power-up the bottom end using the low frequency extension. Choice of 100 and 300 watt settings are available. The on-board low-pass filter gently smoothes the top end to tame overtly bright amps.
The JDX employs 100% discrete electronics and transformer isolation to create the analogue tone and the 500 series modular format makes it super easy to Reamp™ a track and warm it up. As with all Radial 500 series modules, the JDX is backwards compatible with older racks while integrating all of the new capabilities found in the Workhorse including direct connection to the mix buss and the Omniport , which in this case is designated as a direct box out to capture the live performance.
Plug & play easy to use, the JDX lets you record without having to mic your guitar amp each time. It delivers tremendous consistency from track to track while producing the realism of 4x12 half stack cabinet.

SUBMIX, 4x1 Line Mixer
RAD-R700 0170 00
* Single space 4x1 line mixer for 500 series racks
* Accustate circuit for low noise at all levels
* Virtual earth-mix bus configuration
* Use with instruments and line level sources

The Submix is an ultra quiet 4 x 1 mixer module designed to fit the 500 series format and enable the studio engineer to combine multiple audio stems such as line level devices and effects together and route them as needed. The Submix is also ideally suited for keyboards, samplers and drum machines where these need to be mixed into the audio chain.
The design begins with four conveniently located ¼" unbalanced inputs on the front panel. Separate level controls for each input are clearly designated for easy manipulation. These are equipped with Radial's unique dual-gang Accustate circuit that simultaneously sets the input sensitivity and the gain to maximize signal-to-noise. This enables both instrument and line level signals to easily be interfaced without the need for a typical level reducing pad. Following the Radial Workhorse and classic mixer designs pioneered by Neve and SSL, the Submix employs a traditional virtual-earth mix-buss circuit topology. This delivers exceptionally quiet performance even when several Submix modules are combined via the Omniport mix-buss input.
The single-space Submix may be used alone, or doubled-up for full stereo operation. When used with a 3-slot Radial Powerstrip, you can instantly assemble a 12 x 1 keyboard mixer for live use. With a full-blown Workhorse, you can go as far as building a 32x2 analog summing mixer or combine various modules to create unique multi-band effects.
The Radial Submix is an innovative studio tool designed to manage audio signals and open the door to creative new patching options.

TOSSOVER Variable Frequency Divider
RAD-R700 0164 00
* Divide signal for frequency specific processing
* Produce exciting effects by parallel processing
* Create low-pass, high-pass and band-pass filters
* Choice of 12, 18 and 24 dB per octave slopes

The Tossover™ is a unique 500 series module that enables you to frequency-divide the audio signal path into two stems and process the high and low frequencies separately. This enables parallel processing whereby one could, for instance, process a vocal track by adding distortion and presence to the high-end while leaving the low frequencies unaffected.
The design begins with separate low-pass and high-pass filters with variable frequency and amplitude controls for each range. These are connected in series and can be used separately to split off either the bass or treble regions or used together to create a band-pass filter to enhance the mid range. This is augmented with a choice of 12dB, 18dB or 24dB per octave slopes that let you apply subtle filtering on instruments to gently smooth things out or apply a more radical filter at the cut-off frequency for more intense effects.
Either filter may be accessed via the 500 series power rack's XLR output by assigning a rear-mounted slider switch. Using the Omniport on a Radial Workhorse lets you take things a step further by allowing each frequency range to be processed separately and auditioned simultaneously. This, for instance enables you to split a bass track and process the low frequency stem using a compressor while processing the high frequencies with an effect like a tube distortion pedal. You would then mix the two stems together to create new and exciting effects.
The Radial Tossover is an innovative module that opens the door to creative options never before realizable in the 500 series world.

SPACE HEATER 500 Tube Drive
RAD-R700 0152 00
* Studio grade 12AX7 tube overdrive
* 35, 70 & 140 volt Heat switch to set plate B+ voltage
* Transformer coupled output for vintage tone
* Variable HPF & LPF filters to focus distortion

The Radial Space Heater 500™ is a studio-grade tube distortion for the 500 series format. Built to provide anything from subtle warmth to thick and heavy harmonic distortion, the Space Heater 500 is both useful and fun!
Designed for use in the Radial Workhorse or any other 500 series rack, the Space Heater is built around a 12AX7 tube. First, a drive control lets you determine the amount of signal passing through the tube. Next, a 3-position heat switch allows you to apply 35, 70 or 140 volts at the plate to change how the tube reacts to the signal. At the low 35V setting the tube is starved for voltage which causes the tube to break up at a very low volume. The middle 70V setting is a great starting point and allows the tube to handle more level before breaking up to a moderate distortion. At 140 volts, maximum voltage is applied to the tube producing slight saturation and warmth. Sweepable high-pass and low-pass filters can be assigned 'pre or post' tube, allowing you to focus the tube effect on a particular frequency band or cause the tube to react in a different way. Finally, an output level control provides attenuation or boost through an oversized Jensen transformer specially selected for its big bottom end and vintage character.
Enhancing a snare with a touch of distortion can increase presence without losing dynamic range. Blending in some overdrive to a bass track can add clarity without overpowering. Adding distortion to a vocal track can add character and sizzle to cut through the mix without over-compression. The Space Heater 500's amazing 'adjustability' allows it to be used as a subtle effect or as a high gain monster. And no matter your approach, it is sure to find its way on nearly everything you record!
The Space Heater 500… to infinity and beyond!
