4017B Shotgun Mic
DPA-4017B
d:dicate™ 4017B Shotgun Microphone. Five year warranty. Excellent RF Immunity. Lightweight. Uniform off-axis response. Highly directional
Equipped with a highly directional supercardioid pickup pattern, obtained using a supercardioid design with an interference tube that provides excellent off-axis rejection, the DPA 4017B is a short and exceptionally lightweight shotgun microphone that truly measures up to DPA’s impressive reputation for accuracy, clarity, and musicality. Designed for a broad range of applications, the phantom powered 4017B is ideal for use with camera systems, in fixed positions at sports facilities, for broadcast/ENG/film booming, and even studio recording environments.
Tune out the surroundings
Extensive research and development has been undertaken to optimize the sound coming from the sides and behind the microphone. Minimizing the often very un-linear response of a shotgun microphone due to its side lobes is one of the key accomplishments of the 4017B. The condenser capsule uses a high voltage pre-polarized back plate, endowing the shotgun with high output as well as wide dynamics, extremely low noise and distortion specifications.
Small size, big performance
At just 210 mm in length and 68 g (2.4 oz) in weight, the aluminum-bodied DPA 4017B is among the smallest and
lightest boom microphones available. But that’s not to say that it’s small on performance. Fully immune to RF emission, the
4017B’s 19 mm (0.75 in) condenser cartridge is capable of handling peak SPLs of 152 dB before clipping.
Screwdriver-free filter access
The 4017B features two onboard filters that are activated via an ingenious switching ring design. With the simple twist of two sturdy rings, engineers can implement a high-frequency boost that adds a 4 dB shelf at 8 kHz and a first-order bass roll-off below 120 Hz to minimize handling and wind noise. A permanent third-order high-pass filter at 50 Hz effectively removes unwanted low frequency disturbance from handling and wind noise.

Review of DPA 4017 Shotgun, Audio Media April 2008, audiomedia.com
'When you first take the 4017 out of its box the thing that strikes you immediately is the weight – it weighs almost nothing. While this is irrelevant in a studio mic, for boom swingers around the world this is a boon. The principle of leverage means that dangling a weight on a long pole for hours every day is not fun and anyone who has been afflicted by the shakes after gripping a boom for the sixth take of a long scene will appreciate that a few ounces saved at the business end is worth shelling out pounds for in the purchase. And as you lift the 4017 from the foam surround, marveling at its lightness, the second thing you'll notice is that the mic is beautifully made and finished. Almost in contradiction to its weight it feels like a work of art – I confess I was overtaken by the paradox at first – but there it is: a professionally finished microphone that weighs 71 grams.'
'The 4017 is sweet and by getting closer in you can enjoy that sweetness, but there's the rub: in the 'wide and tight' world of modern TV production it's very hard to get close. At the other end of the scale, on set sometimes any tightish hypercardioid is too tight and a more forgiving cardioid helps the hard pressed boom ops in fast moving scenes. The DPA 4017 is not easily summed up – it has some beguiling sonic and engineering qualities – but you need you try it in your rig to make sure it floats your boat. This is definitely a case of getting one on demo and having a go.'

4017C Compact Shotgun Mic
DPA-4017C
d:dicate™ 4017C Compact Shotgun Microphone

At just 154 mm (6.1 in) and 70 g (2.5 oz), this mic sets new standards for compactness within shotgun microphones and their applications. At the same time, it offers impressive accuracy, clarity and musicality.

The mic is fully immune to RF emission and the 19 mm (0.75 in) condenser cartridge is capable of handling peak SPLs of 152 dB before clipping. Designed for a broad range of applications, the d:dicate™ Microphones Series is ideal for use with camera systems, in fixed positions at sports facilities, for broadcast/ENG/film booming and even studio recording environments.

The microphone capsule

The d:dicate™ 4017C Shotgun Microphone, Compact is equipped with a highly-directional hypercardioid pickup pattern; obtained using a supercardioid design with an interference tube that provides excellent off-axis rejection. Its unique directional pattern is useful when you need exceptionally high directivity with high background noise rejection. It is convenient when you cannot place the mic close enough to the sound source. The MMP-C preamplifier makes booming applications such as in a car or in low-ceiling rooms is uncomplicated.

Extensive research and development has been undertaken to optimize the sound coming from the sides and back of the microphone. One of the key accomplishments is that we have minimized often very un-linear response of a shotgun microphone due to its side lobes. The condenser capsule uses a high voltage pre-polarized back plate, endowing the shotgun with high output as well as wide dynamics, extremely low noise and distortion specifications.

The d:dicate™ 4017C Shotgun Microphone, Compact is also available with Rycote Windshield and suspension system – a fully-packed and ready-to-go solution.

At any time, and with no tools needed, it is possible to transform the d: d:dicate™ 4017C Shotgun Microphone, Compact into a new configuration. You can combine it with another d:dicate™ or d:facto™ Microphone Capsule or Preamplifier.
