DPA 2012 - Great close miking on any instrument on the live stage

The 2012 Compact Cardioid Microphone is an all-around generalist pencil mic that guarantees excellent results on any instrument on a live stage.

Durable, reinforced construction

Excellent transient response

Uniform cardioid directionality

Outstanding SPL handling

Natural and precise sound reproduction

The 2012 Compact Cardioid Mic is the best all-around, generalist mic that you can find to cover a wide range of close-miking needs on the live stage. It is a robust and reliable condenser mic, best for single instrument pickup. Its specifically powerful characteristics make it an extremely flexible mic that will shine on many instruments, particularly those in the high-frequency range.

Durable, reinforced construction

The 2012 is constructed to withstand rough handling on a hectic live stage. It has a thicker, more robust body construction of brass that is very durable and known for its corrosion resistance and tolerance against metal fatigue. In addition to the heavy-duty materials used, the surfaces of the mic handle and grille are treated with a protective black chrome finish, which ensures more graceful ageing.

Unmatched transient response

The 2012, is a professional condenser mic, making it the best choice for those instruments that produce high frequencies. It has a far better transient response than any dynamic microphone, which allows it to pick up the most delicate sound with tremendous accuracy.

Uniform cardioid directionality

The 2012 has a cardioid capsule with DPA’s famously flat off-axis response. Besides a high gain-before-feedback, this characteristic makes it easier for sound engineers to handle bleed from other instruments at close proximity. The 2012 picks up off-axis sounds in a very natural and attenuated way.

Outstanding SPL handling

The 2012 can cope with both extremely high SPLs as well as capture very delicate sounds. With a max SPL, peak before clipping of 156 dB, the 2012, works well on many different instruments and can handle the loudest drums, guitars, horns and more.

Natural and precise sound reproduction

Like all other DPA microphones, the 2012 delivers pure, transparent sound quality.

DPA-2015

Overhead mics for ambient pick up on the live stage

The 2015 Compact Wide Cardioid Microphone is for ambient pick up of a drum kit or other instrument groups.

Features:

Durable, reinforced construction

Uniform wide cardioid directionality

Spacious sound due to a wide cardioid pick-up pattern

Natural and precise sound reproduction

Compact design for unobtrusive placement on stage

In a live situation when a conventional cardioid pattern isn’t quite open enough, choose a pair of 2015 Compact Wide Cardioids. They work ideally as overheads to capture a balanced sound of the entire group of instruments, like a drum kit. Also, when recording instrument groups with complex radiation patterns, the wide cardioid (also known as hemispheric, subcardioid or hypocardioid) design covers a greater sound angle and is an excellent choice.

Durable, reinforced construction

The 2015 is constructed to withstand rough handling on a hectic live stage.

Uniform cardioid directionality

The 2015 has a wide cardioid capsule with DPA’s famously flat off-axis response. Besides a high gain-before-feedback, this characteristic makes it easier for sound engineers to handle bleed from other instruments at close proximity. The 2015 picks up off-axis sounds in a very natural and attenuated way.

Spacious, wide cardioid pick-up pattern

The 2015 can be positioned near the drum kit, closer than you would normally place overhead microphones, and still capture sound evenly across the entire drum kit. This closer position results in stronger signal from the drum kit and therefore less bleed from the stage.

Natural and precise sound reproduction

Like all other DPA microphones, the 2015 delivers pure, transparent sound quality.

Compact design for unobtrusive placement on stage

Although the 2015 can be purchased as a single mic, it really shines as a matched stereo pair, selected with +/- 1.5 dB sensitivity tolerance. The compact design of this stereo pair ensures an open, natural sound pick-up without blocking any of the exciting action on stage.

Key applications

Grand piano, away or close to the strings

DPA 4055 Kick-drum microphone
DPA-4055

What makes the 4055 stand out from the competition is that it delivers the renowned DPA sound, clarity and linear frequency response, both on axis and off axis. Its low frequency response and dynamics are superb and result in a tight, natural, well-defined sound - the best low-end with detailed mids and highs.

The 4055 is one of the only kick drum mics that is not sonically pre-tailored to fit a traditional sound in a specific genre. Its performance allows a professional sound designer to create the exact sound s/he is listening for - regardless of the music genre. Want more attack? Slide the 4055 into the bass drum and point it directly at the beater. For a super-low-end sound, place the 4055 at the hole, just on the outside of the front head. Here, the level of sub and lows are represented the most.

Not only does the position inside or outside the kick drum give you different sounds but working with the angles of the microphone just outside the hole will deliver nuances of the drum sound. No matter what sound preference you have, the 4055 captures the true sound of a kick drum, whether it is used in classic, jazz, rock or any other genre.

The 4055 is placed in a large, robust housing and there is wind damping foam just in front of the capsule, behind the grille. A specially-designed shock mount also suspends the capsule inside the housing to avoid vibrations from the stage. The shock mount together with the extra wind damping ensures that the 4055 captures only the source.

The 4055 is easy to position, both inside and outside the drum. Its unique asymmetric design makes it quite easy to place the mic through the drum hole without ripping the front resonator skin.

4017B Shotgun Mic
DPA-4017B
d:dicate™ 4017B Shotgun Microphone. Five year warranty. Excellent RF Immunity. Lightweight. Uniform off-axis response. Highly directional
Equipped with a highly directional supercardioid pickup pattern, obtained using a supercardioid design with an interference tube that provides excellent off-axis rejection, the DPA 4017B is a short and exceptionally lightweight shotgun microphone that truly measures up to DPA’s impressive reputation for accuracy, clarity, and musicality. Designed for a broad range of applications, the phantom powered 4017B is ideal for use with camera systems, in fixed positions at sports facilities, for broadcast/ENG/film booming, and even studio recording environments.
Tune out the surroundings
Extensive research and development has been undertaken to optimize the sound coming from the sides and behind the microphone. Minimizing the often very un-linear response of a shotgun microphone due to its side lobes is one of the key accomplishments of the 4017B. The condenser capsule uses a high voltage pre-polarized back plate, endowing the shotgun with high output as well as wide dynamics, extremely low noise and distortion specifications.
Small size, big performance
At just 210 mm in length and 68 g (2.4 oz) in weight, the aluminum-bodied DPA 4017B is among the smallest and
lightest boom microphones available. But that’s not to say that it’s small on performance. Fully immune to RF emission, the
4017B’s 19 mm (0.75 in) condenser cartridge is capable of handling peak SPLs of 152 dB before clipping.
Screwdriver-free filter access
The 4017B features two onboard filters that are activated via an ingenious switching ring design. With the simple twist of two sturdy rings, engineers can implement a high-frequency boost that adds a 4 dB shelf at 8 kHz and a first-order bass roll-off below 120 Hz to minimize handling and wind noise. A permanent third-order high-pass filter at 50 Hz effectively removes unwanted low frequency disturbance from handling and wind noise.

Review of DPA 4017 Shotgun, Audio Media April 2008, audiomedia.com
'When you first take the 4017 out of its box the thing that strikes you immediately is the weight – it weighs almost nothing. While this is irrelevant in a studio mic, for boom swingers around the world this is a boon. The principle of leverage means that dangling a weight on a long pole for hours every day is not fun and anyone who has been afflicted by the shakes after gripping a boom for the sixth take of a long scene will appreciate that a few ounces saved at the business end is worth shelling out pounds for in the purchase. And as you lift the 4017 from the foam surround, marveling at its lightness, the second thing you'll notice is that the mic is beautifully made and finished. Almost in contradiction to its weight it feels like a work of art – I confess I was overtaken by the paradox at first – but there it is: a professionally finished microphone that weighs 71 grams.'
'The 4017 is sweet and by getting closer in you can enjoy that sweetness, but there's the rub: in the 'wide and tight' world of modern TV production it's very hard to get close. At the other end of the scale, on set sometimes any tightish hypercardioid is too tight and a more forgiving cardioid helps the hard pressed boom ops in fast moving scenes. The DPA 4017 is not easily summed up – it has some beguiling sonic and engineering qualities – but you need you try it in your rig to make sure it floats your boat. This is definitely a case of getting one on demo and having a go.'

The DPA 4011A cardioid condenser microphone is an upgraded version of our classic 4011, renowned in recording studios and live applications around the world as an exceptional mic. State-of-the-art components have been carefully selected to provide optimal neutrality, accuracy, and extremely low distortion.

Five year warranty

Pure linear cardioid

The principal appeal of the 4011A is its directional quality and attention to detail: everything sounds like the original. The first-order cardioid pickup pattern provides superb separation between sound sources when used as a spot mic on literally any style of live music, from rock ‘n’ roll to opera. The 4011A is equally suitable for close-up work on acoustic guitar, grand piano, overheads, percussion, wind instruments and vocals as it is for spot-miking symphonies. It can handle incredibly high sound levels and even includes a 20 dB pad switch in the center of the XLR connector to attenuate the output of the microphone.

Perfectly natural

A flat on-axis frequency response and excellent phase response deliver a totally faithful reproduction of the original sound. The off-axis response is similarly smooth so that any leakage is an accurate reflection of the original, though attenuated according to the true first-order cardioid pickup pattern. The sensation of “being there” will always be more intense with the DPA 4011A than with any other cardioid. Chosen for its qualities as an all-around performer, the 4011A is a great, clean-sounding colorless mic. The variety of applications is as wide as the imagination of the user.

2011C Compact Twin Diaphragm Cardioid Mic
DPA-2011C
d:dicate™ 2011C Twin Diaphragm Cardioid Microphone, Compact
All-round workhorse – blends clarity, richness and dynamics
Twin-Diaphragm capsule and interference tube technologies
Superb stage separation and level control
Modular flexibility

All-round workhorse
The new DPA 2011C microphone has strong references to the acclaimed close-miking and hi-SPL handling specialist DPA 4011 cardioid microphone – not only by its type number 11, also in its all-round capture abilities.
2011 is primarily optimized for on-stage use and the technology combines the new Twin Diaphragm Capsule and DPA’s strong know-how within interference tube technology.
While 4011 has gained worldwide admiration for its total linearity at all sound confrontations, the 2011 is purposely aimed differently; the off-axis response is still linear but in a smaller frequency bandwidth making stage separation and gain-to-feedback higher and mic level easier to control.
Modular flexibility
2011C is part of the flexible DPA d:dicate Recording Microphones series. The 2011C with the MMP-C compact preamplifier offers a subtle character alteration with a bit more “body” to the low end – in addition to its easier-to-position approach. The 2011A with the MMP-A preamplifier is the audiophile’s choice with low distortion and total accurate and faithful sound.
At any time and with no tools necessary it is possible to transform the basic 2011 microphone into a new configuration by combining it with another DPA microphone capsule or preamp.
Twin Diaphragm Capsule: cutting edge technology
The overall distinctive sound image from the DPA miniatures is so well balanced that it meets the high demands of  the d:dicate Recording Microphone range.
In a 2011 capsule two opposite facing miniature capsules are custom re-built into a double diaphragm, one-capsule composition.
The use and control of interference tubes has become a DPA specialty and the 2011 is no exception; the capsules are loaded to the supreme d:dicate preamps instead of the tiny miniature FET preamp from the 4060 miniature series, offering even more air and precision.
Stage addict
The 2011 has found its use on numerous stages and recording sessions. Exhibiting a previously unheard blend of clarity, richness and dynamic range, the 2011 performs like a much more exclusive microphone and redefines the term value for money.

Exceptional for vocal
Expand your horizon with a wider pattern
If you are already a DPA 4011 devotee, you will discover an exciting alternative in our wide cardioid microphones. The phantom powered DPA 4015A wide cardioid differs in its polar pattern and is the perfect fill-in between an omni and a more directional microphone. Sometimes a conventional cardioid pattern just isn’t quite open enough, such as when recording instruments with complex radiation patterns. In those instances, the generous polar pattern of our Compact Wide Cardioids allows you to pick up a broader sound field and more accurately capture the full breadth of a stirring performance.
Limitless applications
Recording orchestras or other ensembles sometimes requires a compromise between blending in the room reverberation and a more precise localization. The wide cardioid (also known as hemispheric) design covers a greater sound angle and is an excellent choice for grand piano, guitar, marimba, and percussion, or as a spot mic for groups in a symphony orchestra. Likewise, it is an excellent speech, dubbing, or vocal mic as its enhanced richness on the bass end nicely compliments many voices.
Completely linear, even off-axis
The off-axis characteristics of the 4015A are totally linear, a unique quality when it comes to authentic sound reproduction. Any leakage that occurs from off-axis sound sources is still a faithful reproduction of these sounds, just softly attenuated.
Specialists in extreme sound levels
DPA’s wide cardioid microphones are capable of handling extremely high sound pressure levels before clipping occurs. The 4015A even includes a 20 dB pad switch in the center of the XLR connector to prevent overloading of the mic amp.
